Look Past The Fool
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
Look past the fool see through the disguise
There's more to the fool than you'll recognize
The fool loves to laugh - has the heart of a clown,
But once in a while longs to put the mask down
Chorus:
Look past the fool find the heart of a lover
The passion of the poet, the fancy of the dreamer
See through the fool to the spirit of the fighter,
The soul of the faithful, the tears of the loner
There's always a fool in every crowd,
Who'll pick you up when you're feeling down
Who'll help you forget your cares for a while
And all the fool asks is a smile
But who'll help the fool when the humour runs dry?
Who'll pick up the pieces and help the fool cry?
For love lost in laughter, the smile hides the pain
Time-out for the fool is a lonely refrain
Coping
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
I'm coping - making love to my beer.
I'm hoping no-one sees my fear
I'm feeling very fragile, my confidence is shattered,
But you're not to see how much I hurt, or know how much you mattered
I'm sinking - I need a bit more booze
I'll keep drinking - obliterate the blues
The pain's not getting any less, I think it's getting worse
If only I could rid myself of this insidious curse
I'm drowning - I need another drink
I'll keep clowning - then I won't have to think
You've gone and all that's left behind is a bloody gaping hole
I'm fighting a losing battle to keep some self-control
Still hurting - it hasn't eased the pain
That's for certain - it treats me with disdain
If only it would help, ease my misery
So I'm making love to my beer while it's fucking me
YOUR FUTURE'S IN THE WINGS
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
You've wrapped the past around you like a well worn jacket
But there's hooks and barbs caught in the cloth
They stab and tear at your flesh and keep the painful memories fresh
And you're scared of being hurt, and you're scared of being hurt
And you're scared of being hurt, and you're scared of being...
You're scared of being, you're scared
Past is where we've come from, but it isn't where we're going
Take a bold and brave step forward
There's no future in the pain - take a risk - stand in the rain
But you're scared of being cold, and you're scared of being cold
And you're scared of being cold, and you're scared of being...
You're scared of being, you're scared...
Your future's in the wings, waiting for your cue
Take that one step forward. That's all you have to do
Take that one step forward. That's all you have to do
Take that one step forward. That's all you have to
That's all you have to, that's all ... you have to do
TO HELL WITH HEAVEN
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
I was raised as a Catholic we were taught to sacrifice
No meat on Fridays and in Lent we had to give up something nice
We had to go to confession, do our penance, get on our knees & pray
Cos we were born as sinners & we'll be so until the judgment day
They said we're born as sinners & we'll be so until the judgment day
I grew up in confusion but was saved when I had a revelation
Didn't need to call the army cos I found my own salvation
Call it Heaven, Valhalla or Nirvana they're all a sacred cow
I said to hell with heaven in the next life - I want heaven now
To hell with heaven in the next life - I want heaven now
I was taught to be patient - good things come to those who wait
And though patience is a virtue I say deprivation is a waste
My life's no rehearsal, make the most of what's here now
So - to hell with heaven in the next life - this is heaven now
I said - to hell with heaven in the next life - this is heaven now
I'M NOT HER
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
I know that she hurt you
She used you then left you
Now you're insecure,
You're not really sure
If I'm like her, I might treat you like she did
But I'm not her.
There's pain in your eyes
Is this truth or lies?
Your hurt cannot heal
'til you trust what you feel
And I'm not her; I won't treat you like she did
I'm not her
And I'm not her, I won't treat you like she did, I'm not her
You're defensive tonight; you're expecting a fight
But with my kind of love, I've got better ways to excite ... you
And I'm not her, I won't treat you like she did
I'm not her
There isn't a price
There's no sacrifice
There's nothing to pay
I don't work that way
And I'm not her, I won't treat you like she did
I'm not her.
I will hold you when you weep
And I'm not her.
I will hold you when you sleep
And I'm not her ...
And together we will keep - together we will keep - together - keep together - keep together
BETTER THAN NORMAL
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
They say I'm not normal - they tell me I'm queer (god forbid!)
Cos I live by my heart and I'm not ruled by fear
Some say it's a waste - I say it's not
Who wants to be normal and lose such a lot?
Chorus:.
I don't want to be normal I'm me
And that's better than normal - I'm free
Yeah I'm free to live as I please
And that's better than normal - I'm me
I don't want to be censured, don't want to be tamed
Don't want to live my whole life mute and constrained
Some say it's a shame I could have so much more
Who wants to be normal it seems such a bore?
Chorus
To give up the chance to be happy and gay
Hey it's not something I would consider today
I've spent many years trying hard to conform
I think I'd be mad to come down to the norm
Chorus
OLD LOVERS, NEW FRIENDS
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
Love's light rides in on the moon
We're alone with the night
And though we're playing a forbidden tune
We'll make believe it's alright
It's alright for tonight
We'll believe it's alright
Cos one glance from you and I melt
One touch leaves me gasping for air
I tremble at the sound of your voice
And long for a love we can share
BRIDGE
We should have been wise, we should have been brave
We should've resisted what our whole beings craved
Our heads said no and our hearts said yes
And our bodies cried out for the love we made
So now we're trying to be just good friends
We know we can't be lovers again
It's a journey made rough by the path that we chose
Old feelings suppressed are still easily exposed
Cos one glance from you and I melt
One touch leaves me gasping for air
I tremble at the sound of your voice
And long for a love we can share
Old lovers - new friends. - old habits die hard
Old lovers new friends - can I see you again
Can I touch you again - can I hold you again
Can I ....kiss .....
The Final Sequel
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
I'm working on a movie - I've thought about it lots
It'll be a real blockbuster with a plot to end all plots
It'll have a cast of thousands, superstars and all
And it'll be the end of the Hollywood sequel
Willy was a whale - kept in captivity
They freed him once, they freed him twice, them came Free Willy Three
But now I'm on a mission, Willy's gonna eat wild krill
But then he'll have to die to prevent another sequel
Now Willy's in the ocean where he meets up with Jaws
They feast on the Titanic and sink to the ocean floor
Speed 2 is on the surface, collides with Thunderbird 4
It's no go for Little Joe 90, as they sink to the ocean floor
Indiana Jones is in Jurassic Park
He's looking for the Lost World, but instead finds Noah's Ark
He takes it for a trip with some passengers on board
King Kong, T-Rex and the Lion King all sink to the ocean floor
Rocky sees the light, Mad Max calls it a day
Then they find each other - in Passion Bay
They turn vegetarian, become Zen Buddhist Monks
Then turn tail and set sail with a fleet of Chinese Junks
Honey shrunk the kids and hid them in the trunk
And when the car flew over the cliff it sank a Chinese junk
Thelma and Louise just couldn't take no more
They sunk with the junk and the kids in the trunk down to the ocean floor
There's a rumbling in the air, star ships fly through the skies
The Millenium Falcon, Close Encounters and the Enterprise
But here comes Mary Poppins, she hasn't seen the fleet
The collision is quite messy as they sink to Neptune's feet
The seabed starts to shake as tectonic plates collide
The credits start to roll as the tidal waves subside
Kevin Costner sees potential - it's his dream come true
He's gonna make my movie - and call it Waterworld 2
SO CLEVER
Words & music by Sue Dunlop
Peeling back the layers
To find a battered heart
So cleverly disguised
In the lightness of dark
Crafted stained glass windows
Hide the tortured souls
So cleverly betrayed
By the truth they've been told
Chorus:
Hidden doorways, without handles
Darkened hallways, unlit candles
Hail Mary, take my hand
And lead me from this promised land
Cryptic clues flirt by me
On a map of a path never crossed
So cleverly misled
Finding yourself lost
Repeat Chorus
The pieces are all packaged
It's a cargo bound for hell
No guilty sins confessed, no guilty sins confessed, no guilty sins confessed...
By the infidel
Repeat Chorus
The album has been produced by DALLIN PRODUCTIONS.
